So, you have a great dress in your closet that’s been hanging there collecting dust for a while. Maybe when you selected it, you even listed out three other events where you could don it. However, there it is. Waiting. A perfectly good dress that can, for an hour or two of your time, have a new life if you’ll let it. Why not take the lint roller to that dress and book a portrait session with a professional photographer? Wear that ensemble once again!
Let’s be honest, my friends, the dress shopping experience is never what you envision. And, you more than likely had a bit of a time finding and choosing the right dress for your special date or event. Now, I watch a lot of Hallmark movies and it’s never as easy as they make it out to be. The main actress and a friend–there’s always a friend willing to shop with her–go into a boutique. After trying maybe three options, the lead character comes out in something that her friend declares with glee is “perfect.” Nope. If only it were that way in real life. Dress shopping is long and grueling. It can even be depressing. So, when you find one–one that makes you smile when you put it on, then you owe it to yourself to get pictures of yourself wearing it.
If you move forward with what I’m suggesting, then you’re gonna have not just a portrait session, but a glamour session! A fancy dress or gown has the unique ability to accentuate you–your curves, your femininity, your sexiness. And a photographer will know how to pose you to highlight all of those parts of you. Chances are that when you wore the dress to whatever event you purchased it for, you never got a photo of you in it. Or if you did, you were standing squarely in front of the camera and the person taking your picture was standing too low. If the camera is too low, you look too long. Not becoming.
After you’ve worn your great great dress for your own personal portrait session, it’s time to do the second thing that’s gonna make you feel fabulous–clean out your closet. Even if that means just getting rid of the one item, do it. Now you won’t feel guilty about bagging up the dress that was just taking up much needed space. You purchased it, you wore it to an event, and now you have beautiful photos of you in it. Box it up and take it to a Goodwill, Savers, or Salvation Army.
Sometimes events come around in our lives that require we buy a new piece of clothing to wear. Men may get away with purchasing a new shirt and tie instead of a suit, but women often buy a whole new dress–and shoes. For a man, their purchase is pretty versatile and can usually be worn again–easily. That’s not often the case for a woman. So instead of feeling guilty for spending money on a garment you’ve worn only once, consider booking a portrait session. You’ll feel free to donate that dress and make space in your closet. But, most importantly, you’ll get to experience a little bit of glamour and feel like a super model because a professional photographer is helping you to “work” that dress. And your photos are gonna be amazing!
