Do you have memories of good times? I’m sure you do. You may be remembering a lot of them right now because you need a little inspiration during these uncertain times. You know, because of the pandemic? But, here’s a question for you: Do you ever think about good times that haven’t happened yet? Because I’m an Enneagram 7, I think about those ALL the time! Seven’s look to what’s ahead–especially if it’s fun. Or, if we imagine it’s going to be fun, then we’re in!
What about you? Do you get a girly giggle when something just sounds fun to you? How about if it looks like it’d be fun to do? When you see photos of places, new or old to you, can you picture yourself there? Have you ever watched someone in a movie and wished you could feel what they’re feeling? Think about it for a minute.
Here’s a list of some of the good times I’m looking forward to having:
Didn’t see that last one coming, did ya? Gotta keep up! I move quickly in these posts!
I can’t take credit for the phrase “good times that haven’t happened yet.” That came from a song written by Bob Schneider called “40 Dogs (Romeo and Juliet)” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWocd40OhXg. Every time I hear that phrase, I smile, or I close my eyes and then smile inside. It just really speaks to my soul. I’ve lived my life waiting for and dreaming of the good times to come. Maybe that’s not necessarily the best way to go about life because then you can miss what’s in front of you. It’s something I’m working on. How? Well, I could say I’m practicing mindfulness, which is a big topic right now, but that’s boring. For me, as an Enneagram 7, that’s also not enough. I’m going down that list I wrote above. That’s right. I’m gonna make them happen! Because, you see, another great quality of my Enneagram type is that I’m “aggressive.” In this case, that means if I wanna do something fun, I’m going after it! 1, 2, 3, 4–all the way down the list!
When I started writing this post, I had no idea what photograph would accompany it. How do you put good times that haven’t happened yet into a photo? Bob can sing about it, yeah, but how was I, as a photographer, gonna capture it? One day I was sitting on my porch, and I saw the wheel of my bicycle. I don’t ride it enough, but I think about it all the time. See the connection? Good times a-comin’! Then, I remembered the picnic blanket (you know, the bed of seduction). I decided to put those two things together. Oh! And, I had just bought some sunflowers to decorate for Mother’s Day (yes, for myself–remember, I’m aggressive). So, I took one of those flowers and the bike and the blanket and had an outdoor photo session! The result was the picture you see at the top of this post!
I encourage you to think about the things that maybe you’ve always dreamed of doing. I’m not talking about going back to school or starting a new career. Life coaches and mentors can give you direction in those areas. But, maybe you could make your own list like I did. Not only could it give you a better idea of your secret hopes, but I think it could also push you towards those fun experiences! My friend, even though our mobility is limited right now because of the COVID-19 virus, there are plenty of good times to be had–even during these uncertain times. Make your list.
